"The staff is great and knowledgeable. They took special care to explain everything to us throughout the whole process. We used them to restate my grandma's trust after she moved here from out of state."

"Jamey and Sophia were a huge help in helping us navigate my parents estate planning. They’ve helped with Medicaid filing, looking into additional VA benefits, setting up Power of Attorneys, and are now helping us set up a trust for my dad’s finances. Great group of honest people at this firm! Thank you!"

"Our estate planning needs weren’t really “planned”. It was a last minute emergency situation with my mother in law going into a nursing home and my father in law needing to figure out how to financially manage the whole thing - we didn’t have a lot of time to react and absolutely nothing had been done to prepare , so we were completely overwhelmed. Jamey and Sophia jumped in with both feet and made this whole process so much easier to navigate. The fast communication and transparency really put our minds at ease. I don’t know what we would have done without their help. My husband and I will definitely use them for our own estate planning needs in the future!! Highly recommend!!"

"We went to a wonderful free seminar at Parkville's Mid-Continent Public Library and decided to go for the free personal consultation at Stockton & Kandt. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Sarah was able to gather all the information needed and recommended a revocable living trust. The whole process was easier than I thought, only 3 meetings: free consultation, design meeting and document signing! Great staff! Kudos to Sarah & Palmer! They really made estate planning easy!"

"I worked with Glenn and Cathy to set up a family trust. They were very accommodating with our schedule and offering a virtual appointment when we couldn’t make it into the office. They were also patient with us as we had lots of questions & made the process feel easy."

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Estate Planning legal services in Gardner, KS.

Most Gardner residents benefit from having a will, durable power of attorney, and healthcare directive as core estate planning documents. Depending on your situation, you may also need a trust, guardianship designations for minor children, or business succession planning documents.
Kansas has specific laws governing inheritance, probate procedures, and estate taxes that can impact your planning strategy. Understanding Kansas statutes on spousal inheritance rights, homestead exemptions, and probate requirements is essential for creating an effective estate plan.
Whether you need a trust depends on factors like the size of your estate, your privacy preferences, and your goals for asset distribution. Trusts can help avoid probate, provide ongoing management for beneficiaries, and offer tax advantages, but a well-drafted will may be sufficient for simpler estates.
If you die without a will in Kansas, state intestacy laws will determine how your assets are distributed, which may not align with your wishes. The probate court will also appoint an administrator for your estate and guardians for minor children, potentially creating delays and additional costs for your family.
You should review your estate planning documents every three to five years or after major life events such as marriage, divorce, births, deaths, or significant changes in assets. Kansas law changes and federal tax law modifications may also necessitate updates to keep your plan current and effective.
